We are a drop off point for Project Linus Volunteers!
What is Project Linus?
It is a non-profit charity whose mission it is to:
"First, it is our mission to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers."
Second, it is our mission to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children."
Project Linus began in December 1995 after Karen Loucks was inspired to make blankets for her local children's cancer center. Since then, Project Linus has expanded to over 400 national chapters and now gifts blankets not only to children who are seriously ill, but to those who are traumatized in any way.
The WNY Chapter of Project Linus provides handmade security blankets to children facing substantial distress in their lives. They provide quilts, fleece blankets, crocheted & knitted blankets to children in hospitals, children's facilities and shelters in WNY. This includes children waiting for organ transplants, facing heart surgery, children with AIDS, abused children or children with other life-threatening conditions.
We have kits at our store available for you to take home and make. Kits include both sides of the quilt and full instructions. Most kits are very easy to assemble with only a center block and borders. All it costs you is your time and some thread. When you finish a kit, just bring back the finished quilt! We also take in any quilts you may have made from your own new fabrics to send to Project Linus as well! Stop in and pick up a kit or brochure today!
